River production model
How a cage farm on the Paraguay River would work, step by step. This is a conceptual design, not engineering approved for construction.
The cycle
- 01 Fingerlings
Pacu of about 5 g from a licensed hatchery.
- 02 Nursery
Up to about 60 g in fine mesh, on a high-protein feed.
- 03 Grow-out
From 60 g to 1–1.2 kg in moored cages, 10 to 14 months depending on temperature.
- 04 Harvest
Prior fasting, harvest by batch and immediate chilled transport.
- 05 Processing and cold chain
Licensed third-party plant and refrigerated delivery to the customer.

What the river demands
- Floods and low water
- The river level changes by several meters over the year: mooring and access have to be designed for it.
- Current and floating debris
- Floating vegetation mats and logs load the nets; nets and anchors are inspected and the date recorded.
- Navigation
- The Hidrovía waterway and the marked channel are left untouched: the site is defined with the Naval Prefecture.
- Oxygen
- Low water and heat lower oxygen levels; readings with alerts make it possible to act in time.
Planned emergency protocols
- Net failure and fish escape
- Anchoring failure
- Abnormal mortality
- Oxygen depletion
- Pollution
- Disease
- Flood damage
- Logistics disruptions
